Maxi Skirts

I'm attempting to update my blog with *most* of the stuff i made this summer. It's just been crazy, and i always feel somewhat dead when i am pregnant. Joy. 

Back in July, my mom, the boys, and I hit the fabric district. it was like candy land. Oh man that place was great. Unfortunately I had wasted most of my budget and I only had a little bit to spend... which i did :)

With my 20+ yards of fabric I made 4 maxi skirts. One is not posted. Two were full length and two were medi length. I used this tutorial by Elle Apparel to make this skirts. They are super easy. I made a few modifications, but nothing much. I always angle my waistband in more. I still love them post pregnancy too!

Minky "perfect corner" blanket

I have always seen those amazing minky blankets in little boutiques, but with a price tag of approx $75-90, it was never going to happen. When i went down to the fabric district i bought some minky and made one for myself. Disclaimer, though: It's not my favorite. I ended up not liking the two together and not being a huge fan of the fabrics. Oh well. Live and learn. Pay a little more and they will be nicer. That is my recommendation. (AFTER i bought the minky we went into Michael Levine and found the most to-die-for minky fabric. I almost died. I was so mad i had just spent $40 on stuff that didn't look 1/4 the quality. Again. Live and learn)

So i decided to try out the perfect corners tutorial found here. I looked at a bunch of different ones, and I think this one is by far the best! Good luck! I want to make this with some flannel and a different minky.... but i have a zillion blankets. Maybe if i ever have a girl...

Another Skinny Tee

I made another skinny tee in the 3T size so that Rae could compare the two. I really love it! I have been saving this shirt to cut up for something (it shrunk and was too small for Nick but i have always loved it immensely). I'm kinda sad it's not the 4T because he will grow out of it soon, but then i can just hand it down to Eldie (so grateful for a little brother only 18 months behind--usually only 12 months in clothes!)

I really really really love the skinny tee pattern and am so excited to delve into it more and more! *hopefully* for the new baby i can shrink the pattern down and make some baby size tees... :)

Table Runner

I made my mom a table runner to match her tree skirt from last year. It's from the same fabrics from Joanns. I tried to make it pretty long.

Funny. So my mom apparently likes to call and explain to me all about how she is going to make the presents I just finished for her in a few weeks. Yes. My mom calls me and goes "hey sweetie. I am going to make a table runner with my new Bernina {rub it in}....yada yada yada" The whole time I am sitting there going Yeah, i just finished a table runner for you yesterday. 

I am happy to say she likes it. Well... honestly... i don't think she would tell me if she didn't. I followed the same system as I did with my mom's tree skirt and I think it is pretty cute. It looks better on her table than on mine! :)

I'm all done showing you the things from Christmas! *Phew* I wasn't sure i was ever going to be done! :)

Casserole Carrier

Back to Christmas catch-up. haha! For my sister for Christmas I wanted to make something but I couldn't totally decide what. So then I decided to make a casserole carrier. I know that when i was young and married I would have loved one. 

And like normal, I forgot to take nice pictures of it. So this is what you have. And i can't for the life of me remember what the fabric is. So again, there we go. :) BUT I know know that i followed the tutorials by homemadebyJill and Little Hooligans. It's great and pretty easy to put together!

I hope she likes it! I know I did!

Made by Rae Skinny Tee Test

I am so honored today to get to share with you a shirt I made with the test pattern by Rae or at made-by-rae.com. It's for the skinny shirt. She mentioned it in a post a week ago and I just sent a casual email asking when she thought it might be done so I could possibly use it to make a shirt for Hayden for his birthday {the big 3. Oh my goodness. He cannot be THREE}. Well, lo and behold she responds and offers to let me test the pattern. Wow! I was like through the roof! I literally spent the next few days waiting to see if i would REALLY be able to test the pattern. {i think i checked my email a zillion times...haha}

Well, I can report that the pattern is amazing. No surprise. I have quite a few patterns by Rae and they are all great. This pattern is for a pretty back little kids tee and it is open to SO many possibilities! I can't wait. I have this shirt of Hayden's I've been wanting to try and "re-create" and this is the perfect pattern for it. I highly recommend it!

Do you want to hear a funny terrible story about this shirt? Yeah?! Well, I did the stenciling on the fabric (see below) and when I was finishing it up, my boys were watching with me. I looked down and saw red spots on my fabric...BLOOD! BLOOD! Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of white fabric? I quickly looked at my children and pulled the fabric away as I exclaimed, "Stop bleeding on my fabric! Who is bleeding on my fabric?!" It only took me a few more seconds to think **Gee, Kelly. There is blood. Why is there blood? How is there blood. Wait. Blood?! What happened? My child is hurt. Ahhh!** But that was definitely not my first reaction. haha. Welcome to reality. Right?!

{For the shirt i used an interlock knit from Joanns (it's def not my favorite fabric. I need to stock up on nice knits, but i am just starting to really be daring with  my knits). I used a stencil I made on my Silhouette and then painted the lightning bolts onto the fabric! Worst part?! I ran out of fabric on accident. haha So i had to make a mad dash to Joanns to get more! Luckily I still got it done on time!}

Can you tell he loves having his picture taken? I'm just so happy! He absolutely loves it. I absolutely love it. That is what i call a successful tee! :)

Cascading Ruffle Skirt

Now if I had to pick favorite Christmas present that I made (or at all for that matter) this would be it. I absolutely and completely adore this skirt. It's based on the Cascading Ruffle Skirt by Lil Blue Boo (p.s. if you don't read Lil Blue Boo, you should. Ashley is a remarkable woman!). I wanted to make something fun and young for my little 6 year old niece.

I love love love how it turned out. It has so much flounce and bounce. She wasn't the most excited to get it--i mean when all the cousins are getting toys, why did she get clothes--but i still think it is pretty amazing.

I rolled hemmed the edges for a more finished look and then used fabric paint to stencil her name and a little design for a tag of sorts.

I also bought a $5 tee from Target and stenciled a flower that matched the one on the "tag" for her. I really love how they look together! So yeah... i think it's awesome! :)
